Research Report on China’s Neighboring Diplomacy (2018-2019) (“the Report”)is compiled by Center for China’s Relations with Neighboring Countries of Fudan University (CCRNC-Fudan) and contributed by over 20 China’s prominent scholars. The Report mainly covers 4 topics: “Assessment and Outlook of China’s Neighboring Diplomacy in 2018-2019”, “China’s Relations with Major Powers in its Neighboring Area in 2018”, “China’s Sub-regional Diplomacy in its Neighboring Area in 2018” and “Hot Issues of China’s Neighboring Diplomacy in 2018”. Besides, the appendix part of the Report is composed of “China’s Neighboring Diplomacy Chronicle in 2018” and “Statistics of China and its Neighboring Countries in 2018”. The report affirms the achievements made by China’s neighboring diplomacy during the new era of socialism with Chinese characteristics, and points out the new problems and challenges that China’s neighboring diplomacy is facing. The report shows that in 2018, the strategic competition between China and the United States in the neighboring area of China has become increasingly fierce, turning into the biggest external factor affecting China’s neighboring security environment. Hot issues in neighboring area such as the DPRK nuclear issue have cooled down, but the possibilities of reverse exist. The “intermediate countries” among neighboring countries are getting better relations with China, which shall be further strengthened. The Asia multilateral cooperation regimes are facing an impact while expected to be integrated. The Report is a compilation for experts and scholars to know about the relations of China and its neighboring countries, contributed by a group of outstanding scholars, whose specialties are in the field of China’s neighboring diplomacy.
